‘Football is the only thing that makes me feel better in toughest time’

Kozhikode, May 4: The outbreak of Covid19 and the ensuing lockdown have changed the lives of many sportspersons. Though the season has been long wrapped up, several players of Gokulam Kerala FC are still stuck in Kozhikode due to travel bans.

Malemnganba Meitei, the forward from Manipur, has been trying hard to fight the boredom and a totally different lifestyle of lockdown at the club facility in Kozhikode.

“Other than usual indoor workouts, I am spending more time reading and sometimes cooking for myself. And of course there is lot of Netflix. These times are difficult but since staying indoors is the best option, I am adhering to it,” said Malem.

The player is missing his family dearly and especially his son, who is just seven months old. “Most of the people are with their family during the lockdown. I am missing a great chance to be with my family. I have been away from them for long. I have already missed my son’s first feeding ceremony. I think my son will finally start speaking or call me papa when this pandemic is over,” Malem says.

Malem is missing football but he believes that thing will settle down and everyone will be back to normal routine. “It is very tough and boring without football especially if it is your passion and career. Football was the only thing that made me feel better in my toughest time. Hope this gets better soon so that we can be back to normal routine,” he said.

“We all should listen to the experts’ advises. Also, those who are with family this is a golden time to spend some quality time,” he added
