Gokulam face Chennai City hurdle in Sheikh Kamal Cup

Gokulam Kerala FC face I League champions Chennai City FC in their final Group ‘B’ match in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup held here at MA Aziz Stadium on Saturday.

The Malabarians need only a draw to enter the semifinal while Chennai City FC have already been exited the tournament after two consecutive defeats. Gokulam’s captain Marcus Joseph has made a return from the national duty and he is expected to start the match.

“The match is important for us. We need to win and progress to the knockout. The team is confident but we have to be wary of Chennai City FC. They have got a bunch of good players and they will play for the pride,” said head coach Fernando Santiago Varela.

“Marcus return will have a huge impact on us. The team has good understanding and we have to play well to ensure the semifinal entery,” said Mohammed Irshad, who captained the team during Maracus’ absence.

Chennai City are dealt with two suspensions in their match against Bashundhara Kings. The match will be held at 3.30 pm on Saturday and is live on Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup facebook page.
