Jestin aims to script another success story at Gokulam

Kozhikode, June 26: Jestin George loves slide tackles. And whenever he gets a chance, he is all up for it. He has followed this daredevil attitude in his life also and this has helped him to set aside several downsides enabling him to pursue his ambitions.

He had a dream start in the 2019-20 season as he was an auto-pick in Fernando Varela’s three-man defensive system and started the season on a high note after getting promoted from the reserve team.

The 22-year-old almost started every game under the Argentine coach in Durand Cup and played a major role in the historic win of the Malabarians. In the ILeague also, he had a good start, playing four matches in a row.

An untimely fever jeopardised Jestin’s George place in the starting XI as he missed two games. But his return match against Punjab FC  was a disaster for Malabarians with a 1-3 loss.

“The season was a memorable one. Winning the Durand Cup was a major achievement for me. I played almost every match. I also had a good ILeague start but a bout of fever kept me away from practice sessions and two matches,” said Jestin George.

“Once we lose the rhythm, it is not easy to be back in the same form.  Anyway, it was a good season and I was able to learn a lot,” the player said.

“I know that I need improve. I think with more experience, I would be able to perform better. With the experienced Irshad and Andre playing along with me, I was able to understand several things. Now I feel I will be able to perform better,” he said.

Jestin George has now a government job, thanks to the Santosh Trophy win in 2017-18. “The job is interesting and is totally different from what I am used to. I want to comeback strongly and script another success story with Gokulam next season. I am waiting for it,” he added.
