Vincenzo: I am eagerly waiting to join the training

Kozhikode, November 11: Football has made Gokulam Kerala FC Italian coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese travel to different parts of the globe. His latest pit stop is Kozhikode, where he has been entrusted to select a champion squad and bring the title to Kerala.

The 36-year-old coach has ample work experience at various countries such as Malaysia, Ghana, Armenia, Kosova, Palestine, Belize, and Latvia. He reached Kozhikode last Saturday and is in quarantine, following the Covid19 protocol. The coach expects to join the ongoing training sessions after mandatory seven-day quarantine period.

Having done online training and closely following the ongoing sessions during his quarantine days at the club facility in Kozhikode, the coach is adjusting to the new normal in football.

“This is a new experience for me. I am eager to join the training but the situation does not permit it now. We have to respect it and after I am out, I need to prepare my boys to the maximum. During this period I am in constant touch with the fitness coach, the team manager, and the players,” says Annese.

The coach has already done research on players and also on Malabarian’s home city Kozhikode. “The place looks similar to South East Asia, where I had worked. I have heard that football is popular at this place and is home to various historic tournaments. Our aim will be to keep up to the expectations of the fans and tradition,” the coach said.

The coach is in India with intent and he believes nothing short of winning the league will satisfy him. “Gokulam is a big club for me. They have beaten other big clubs in past but they have not won the league. So my focus is to win the league. Winning a match may be big but winning the league will be historical. It will be remembered for years and I want to part of that,” he said.

“I am waiting for this quarantine to end and join the training. A lot of work is there and I along with my backroom staff have charted the work plan. Now everything depends on the work we do and the way we do it,” he added.
